miracle ride
miracle ride
Due to Bangladesh’s large population , inadequate seats on the train & poverty, it is quite common to see a thick layer of people occupying the roof of a train. Frequent accidents, which occur when a free ride slips, are not enough to deter these stowaways of the railway.
Akram, a young man of 40 rocking on the roof of the train with red eyes answering this way & was addicted by a kind of drug, who travels on the roof regularly to reach his mechanical workshop. People like him is a part of the sum. This auspicious feature of life they carried along with spontenously. A generation of people who travels on the roof of the train for many a years, they are so unchanged, immutable and steady in their habits. The expression often we get is quite impressive and stoic also.
The economical suppression paved the way for them to take such an aweful decisions mainly. So far I have not seen a face which is so placid and outcaste, its always expressive and telling the tale of their miserable circumstances through their posture, attitude, behaviour and attire even.
And above all extinction of emotion has serve a certain colour of combination about their original life style. There are thousands of people who make their journey on the roof of the train becoming natives of the place. They are so habituated that cannot be changed in a moment. There is no real estimate ,but these are some of the most vulnerable people of the country ,with very few assets to help them and get rid of that condition to cope up with life in such an existing political, social and economic system that virtually ignores them. Roof travelers are of various ages and engage in different types of work to earn their living such as crippled beggars, porters in transport centres, day-labourers, rickshaw-puller, garments worker, helper, carpenter, crack-brained, and the street sex-workers Of course poverty is the root cause of the underlying fact is concerned.these people are thown away into the non-comfort zone of life but it’s a real bravery & heroism to forget all the anguish & pain they get from daily life. There is no smoke without fire. This roof travelers set up an unprecedented & consistant example of how carelessly one can disobey the rules& regulations. It tells us a new story everytime – the birth of a new era in Bangladesh would start from here.
